Our Humans of 3Q series continues this week with Greg Erickson, People Analyst, out of our San Diego office! Get to know Greg below:
Explain why you’re a 3Qer in 3 sentences or fewer:
I take confusing HR numbers and turn them into pretty HR pictures. I then talk to stakeholders about what they mean and what we should do about them. I also get to work on Diversity and Inclusion as a passion project.
What sets 3Q apart from other agencies in the industry?
Maybe I’m biased because I work in HR, but I think we do a great job hiring talented and caring people. Every time I meet new 3Qers, I’m blown away by how collaborative they are. If you start a project with them, they’re happy to pitch in and help you out even if the project doesn’t fall in their job description; they’re just happy to help out a fellow 3Qer. It’s really inspiring to see and gets you excited to do the same!
When coworkers from other offices come to visit, what’s one thing they absolutely have to do in your city?
Eat at Buona Forchetta for the best Italian food in the U.S., check out the Zoo, and pick one of our amazing beaches and catch some rays.
What 3Q initiative outside of your job description are you most proud of being a part of?
I love the time I get to spend on Diversity and Inclusion. I helped create several of our initiatives, but my favorite is our push to create a culture of psychological safety where people feel comfortable sharing their ideas or opinions without fear of being shot down or ridiculed by coworkers.
When people come to work and they don’t look, feel, or act like everyone else, it can be hard for them to feel comfortable putting their best foot forward. A culture of psychological safety helps reduce these effects and ensures that people who are cut from a different cloth can share their full potential.
Over the last year we’ve seen the term psychologically safety really take off. Managers are now striving to build that inclusive environment, and I’m really proud to see it.
Have you participated in 3Q 3%? If so, what’s been your favorite experience?
Our whole office broke out into teams to deliver Meals on Wheels. It was a great team-building experience and very fulfilling getting to meet so many charming people.
Tell us about your morale associate (pet: if you have one).
I’ve got 4! Atticus (@ for short) is our German Shepherd mix who’s excellent at destroying cardboard boxes. Robot and Rain are my two cats who have two modes: nap and chaos. Esteban is a Calathea Peacock and my favorite plant; he folds himself up at night and opens back up during the day.
How do you spend your free time?
I spend most of my time reading, playing video games, trying new food, and obsessing over plants.
What’s been the coolest thing you’ve done with your unlimited PTO?
I took a lovely tour through London, Berlin, Munich, Bologna, and Florence on one trip and experienced 24-hour daylight in Alaska during another!
What’s one life lesson you wish you’d learned earlier?
Dive into things you’re passionate about; often the reason you like it is that you’re good at it. Nothing is more inspiring to others than those two things combined.
