Humans of 3Q is back this week with Search Account Manager Balaji Bhat, out of our San Francisco office! Get to know Balaji below:
Tell us about what you do for 3Q in 3 sentences or less.
Problem-solve with really cool people. Make Davit Dovlatian regret coming into work on any given day. A little something my team likes to call GSD (Get Sh**t Done).
What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?
Set up automated rules for email alerts really early on – it’s just the smart thing to do to stay on top of everything.
What is the dumbest way you’ve been injured?
I once hit my head on a low ceiling while explaining to people that the ceiling was low and that if you weren’t careful you could hit your head. I shed a little blood and a whole lot of dignity.
Have you participated in 3Q 3%? If so, what’s been your favorite experience?
I was happy to donate to and participate in the Casino Night to raise money for victims of the California fires. Finally, a chance to put my penchant for placing bets to good use! I lost it all to Oliver Eldredge that night. *shaking fist*
What are some of the most important things you’ve learned in your travels?
I’ve lived in 3 countries and 5 cities, and traveled to a little over 10. I’m extremely lucky to have had all that exposure; some of the biggest impact it has had on me is to have the humility to realize that you are in someone else’s home. Their rules might be strange to you, their way of life might not make sense at first, and who they are will undoubtedly escape your understanding. People will always surprise you, and learning about others will inevitably lead to you learning about yourself. The bane of our industry and all of its encompassing landscape is that we’ve made it both extremely easy to understand others and at the same time reach a conclusion all too fast. Travel has helped me exercise the former to avoid the latter.
If you were given an unlimited amount of money to invest into one upcoming or exciting marketing technology, what would it be?
I would invest in 4R Digital, where the breadth and vanguard expertise of our channel management offers clients the ability to discover and capture customers at every stage of the purchase funnel. Best-in-class search, paid, social, and display techniques combine with select technology partners and in-house mobile, LPO, design, and analytics teams for top-to-bottom campaign optimization.
Some say it’s just a copycat of 3Q Digital except that I’m CEO and there’s unlimited mango in the fridge, but I’d say it’s a lot more than that: We also have unlimited wings on Wednesdays.
If you could choose any video game world to live in, what would it be?
I would definitely occupy the Assassins Creed world. It combines some of my favorite things: ultimate VR experience and being able to go back in time and experience history! Also, it helps that you don’t die in real life if you die in the animus so technically I don’t even have to obey the law muahahahaha!
What’s your favorite TED talk?
I have a few favourite TED Talks, but I’d like to call out someone who gave an incredible speech about Achieving Your Childhood Dreams. Randy Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Mellon who died of Pancreatic cancer at the age of 47, and whose “Last Lecture” – a speech given by every professor before they end their tenure at Carnegie Mellon – was a tectonic shift that changed the reality of my life. I encourage you all to take out an hour to watch someone just reignite the light that guides you to your dreams.
