Take some time to get to know Scott Rayden, CRO at 3Q Digital working out of our Bay Area offices.

What’s the first metric you check when you start the day?

I wish I could say there was a single “first metric I check every morning”. Revenue at the end of the day is what I’m responsible for so while revenue is something I look at every day, there are a collection of data points within sales and marketing that are the leading indicators to revenue for our company.

What is your favorite advertising campaign?

One of my recent favorites is the Nike “Together” campaign. I’m a huge fan of what Nike does from a marketing perspective. They celebrate great athletes as a way of connecting their brand to the world’s greatest athletic heroes. They rarely focus on their product; that tends to stand in the background. Connecting to people on an emotional level is such an important aspect of a brand’s success. What I love about the “Together” campaign is that it takes a typical Lebron James commercial and makes it about the team, about the fans, and about doing something together. I always say no one person is ever responsible for a company’s success. It’s always about great people doing great work “TOGETHER” as a team.

What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?

Willingness to test, try new things, be different, think creatively, and avoid the same old same old. Too many people are stuck in their ways. Pushing yourself to try new things, to fail, to learn and grow.

What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?

The people. Again, every great company was built by a great team not an individual. 3Q has incredible talent that has come together not as individuals, but as great teams across the company. I love that about 3Q.

Care to share your favorite spot to work from home?

I have two kids, so the idea of working out of my actual house just doesn’t work. My 2-year-old would end up on my lap hacking away at my computer. My “work from home” office tends to be Red Rock Coffee on Castro Street in downtown Mountain View. Great coffee, great wifi, and a quiet place to put your head down and get work done.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to work at 3Q?

It’s a special place where you will be surrounded by incredibly talented and dedicated people — a place to learn, grow, and be inspired by others. If you keep that perspective and keep your eyes open to that, there is never a day where you can’t learn something valuable.

Which of 3Q’s core values is most important to you, and why?

Innovate. I love thinking about the future of what we do and thinking of new ways to go about things. How can we be different, be better, be unique in our space, be more than just relevant? I think it’s important to have a vision and be able to manifest that vision into something within the company that pushes us forward.

If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?

Easy, San Diego. I’m a California native and love what San Diego has to offer. Great weather, great beaches, great food, great people…..

What is your motivation to come into work every day?

I feel like we have a very unique opportunity at 3Q Digital. Most people go a lifetime without the kind of opportunity that we have. Not only do we get to work with the most innovative brands in the world, but we get to help shape and define what digital marketing actual is. Not just from a channel perspective, but how brands and agencies work together and the role an agency can play. It’s not often you get to help define and shape an entire industry. 3Q is positioned to do just that.

What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?

I’ve been traveling like crazy for work lately, so a nice staycation actually sounds perfect!

Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?

One horse-sized duck. One good hit and you can take that thing down. The thought of 100 ducks attacking me is just scary.

Hot dogs or hamburgers?

Hamburgers.

What is on your bucket list?

To hang out on Necker Island with Richard Branson.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Scott in high school, shredding.

Spending time with my wife and two kids. Playing guitar, cooking, and playing some sort of competitive sport. I love to compete so have to get that out of my system.
