What’s the first metric you check when you start the day?

I look at Spend. I just do a quick sanity check on my top campaigns to see if they are still spending; if there were any huge drops, there must be something wrong. Then I will check Conversions and CPA and see if there were any crazy fluctuations.

What’s one marketing lesson you wished you had learned earlier?

When just starting a campaign, you do not need to have every single possible keyword possible in every single variation. If you try to account for them all, in the end you end up with a ton of keywords with low search volume and messed up query mapping that you will have to fix later on.

What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?

Patience. This industry is very fast-paced and demanding. You have to have patience in many aspects, whether you are testing out a new strategy or QA’ing your work. Most importantly, you have to give yourself patience to learn the job. Right out of the gate, you want to learn everything all at once. In time, with hard work and the right people around you, you will thrive.

If you had $10M to personally invest, which marketing platform or technology would you invest in, and why?

I would invest in a marketing analytics platform like Jumpshot. With all of the data that comes in, the need to quantify it all is something that every marketing agency needs. I also feel that competitor analysis tools are crucial and definitely have room to become more accurate.

What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?

Obviously the perks are pretty awesome, but the thing I brag the most about is my group of coworkers. Talking with most people about work, they have a coworker or boss that they hate. At 3Q (especially in the SD office), I don’t have that issue.

Who is the unsung hero of your team?

Katherine Pellegrini. She is an amazing leader, always has a positive attitude, and is always willing and enthused to help others. She always has your back and will probably literally fight for you. Joey Kovac is pretty cool too.

What is your motivation to come into work every day?

7. Looking back at all the things I had to go through to get to where I am today pushes me forward. I know no matter what challenges I have to go through, I have fought through worse. My parents have helped me through a lot of it, and now being in a position where I can help them is a great feeling. The more I work hard and grow, the more I can help. The snacks at the office are pretty good too.

What does 3Q’s culture mean to you?

This is a pretty controversial question recently with the acquisition and the quick growth of the company, but at the core of what 3Q’s culture means to me is to work hard and always challenge yourself, but to also have fun. Not forced fun where there are team bonding trips like other companies, but actual fun with the people around you who are working just as hard if not more. I know that is really broad and also cheesy, but it is difficult to put it in words. It is something you have to experience for yourself.

Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck?

This is also another extremely controversial question. If I had to choose, I would take on a horse-sized duck. I think it would be a great battle that would last hours, possibly days. In the end I would earn its respect and we would become allies and fly gloriously into war together against the army of 100 duck-sized horses and come out victorious. They will make a movie about us with The Rock playing me and the horse from Seabiscuit dressed as a duck playing the horse-sized duck.

Hot dogs or hamburgers?

Hamburgers, hands down.
