Eric Smith, 3Q Digital Account Director out of San Francisco (he’s the one on the monitor), has got plenty to share on what makes him tick.
What’s one metric you rarely bother to check?
Impression share lost to budget, because you should never be budget capping!
If you had $10M to personally invest, which marketing platform or technology would you invest in, and why?
I would go with Optimizely. The product solves an incredibly important problem. Also, they don’t depend on an ad network or publisher in order to provide value.
What one quality do you think is most important in successful digital marketers today?
I think ambition is the most important quality. Anyone can follow a process and run day-to-day optimizations, but people who are truly motivated and engaged take things to the next level by constantly educating themselves, problem solving, and going the extra mile to deliver results.
What is your favorite thing to brag about at 3Q?
I like to brag about how smart and hard-working the team is. The level of talent here is incredibly high and is what I like most about my job.
Which of 3Q’s core values is most important to you, and why?
“Do the math.” At the end of the day, this is where our competitive edge comes from and what allows us to move numbers for clients.
If you had to switch offices, which office would you pick and why?
I love San Francisco, and it would be hard to persuade me to leave. If I had to I would go with Vermont. I played some digital golf there and it seems like a beautiful place. Also, Hillary is supposedly pretty cool.*
*editor’s note again: Hillary is very cool.
What has been your favorite perk item/activity?
It’s been a while, but there was a company trip to Vegas shortly after I joined. I didn’t know anyone here and it was a great way to start off and break the ice. Also I really cleaned up on the tables.
What trips have you gone on/do you plan to go on with your unlimited PTO?
Machu Picchu is definitely going to happen.
