3Q3% Update: Volunteering with the NYC and Burlington Offices

Published: November 6, 2018

Author: Molly Shotwell

This week we’re checking in with each of our offices to get the latest on their 3Q3% activities. 3Q3% is our company’s initiative to encourage our employees to spend at least 3% of their time giving back to their local communities. Each office has a dedicated 3Q3% organizer who plans group volunteering opportunities throughout the year. Today: NYC and Burlington, VT!

Here in NYC we like to keep things interesting and switch it up from time to time. Specifically, our volunteering activities have recently included preparing for a gala and working in a kitchen; as always these experiences are fueled by wanting to help others.

Erica, Marisa and I put our physical strength to the test while helping out before the Housing Works: Design on a Dime benefit event. We cleared out garbage, broke down hundreds of boxes and assisted in the preparation of booths for this annual event where interior designers create one-of-a-kind rooms using donated merchandise from well-known decor brands and artists. All items are then sold at charitable prices and  all of the proceeds go towards helping Housing Works continue their fight to end the homelessness and AIDS crisis in NYC.

We have also sharpened our culinary skills while preparing wholesome, nutritious meals at God’s Love We Deliver. They are an amazing institution that delivers (free!) meals to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses. Erica, Marisa and I had the opportunity to assemble meals, chop up veggies and create a fruit platter; all for those who are unable to provide and/or prepare meals for themselves.

Coming up we’re definitely going to head back to God’s Love We Deliver in order to prepare meals in time for the holidays!

Vermont is beautiful, but we’re the first ones to admit that our winter is serious business. While many of us revel in skiing and snowboarding, lots of folks in the community need a good supply of winter clothing simply to stay warm outside. We’re also not immune to poverty; there are too many people in the Burlington area who struggle to get enough food in their bellies at any point in the calendar, let alone the long winter months.

To do our part to help, 3Q’s Burlington office put on a food drive and a winter clothing drive. Folks from neighboring offices in the building chipped in to make donations to help area families tackle the upcoming winter months. The food will be donated to a local food shelf and the clothing to Anew Place.
